Antique Large Oval Convex Bubble Glass Portrait - Victorian/Edwardian Era
Antique oval portrait featuring a young child, housed behind original convex \"bubble\" glass. This piece is a classic example of early 20th-century photography, likely a charcoal or crayon enlargement with soft, hand-tinted details in the face and hair.
The portrait is set in a gesso-over-wood frame with a classic beaded inner trim and an antique gold/brass finish. The curved glass adds incredible depth and a lifelike quality to the image that flat glass cannot replicate.
Glass: Excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks or clouding. Small scratch, shown in photos.
Portrait: Displays beautiful sepia and soft color tones; some light age-related fading/toning consistent with age.
Frame: Solid structural condition with a charming aged patina. There is some \"flea bite\" chipping to the gesso and surface wear on the edges (as shown in photos), which adds to its authentic antique character.
Backing: Original cardboard backing with wire hanger intact. Note: There is a vintage water stain on the back cardboard that does not appear to have affected the front image.
