A beautiful antique Italian Miniature from 1874-1895. The artwork depicts the classic religious subject of the Madonna and Child, with the Virgin Mary tenderly holding the infant Christ. The style is reminiscent of Old Masters works, often copied by skilled Italian miniaturists. The painting is executed in fine detail using watercolor or gouache on a thin wafer of organic material, (due to their superior luminescence for portraiture).
Condition: The painting itself appears to be in good antique condition, set within a dark metal bezel. Please note there is a small triangular piece missing from the tiling on the upper left-hand side of the square frame (see photos). This is common for pieces of this age and construction.
