Antique Hand-Pieced & Hand-Quilted Scrap Cutter Quilt | 83\" × 62\" | Estimated 1930s–1940s
Beautiful, heavily timeworn handmade scrap quilt featuring colorful geometric patchwork blocks against a predominantly white background.
This quilt is entirely hand pieced and extensively hand quilted, with exceptionally dense hand stitching throughout. The patchwork incorporates a wonderful assortment of vintage fabrics, including florals, checks, ginghams, plaids, dots, solids, and other small prints.
The blocks feature variations of traditional triangle and pinwheel-style designs in shades of blue, red, aqua, pink, peach, green, lavender, and other colors.
Estimated Age: Based on fabric styles and construction, this quilt is believed to date from approximately the 1930s–1940s. The exact date is unknown.
Family Provenance: This quilt was passed down through the family of Mabel Young, who was born in Kansas City, Kansas, and later lived in Santa Maria, California. According to her granddaughter, Bronya Rothwell, Mabel quilted throughout her life and lived to age 99. The quilt is attributed to Mabel through this family history.
Interesting Construction Detail: Areas of fabric deterioration reveal a woven textile inner layer rather than conventional fluffy batting. This may be an older repurposed blanket or another woven household textile. The exact material and original purpose of this inner layer are unknown.
CONDITION: CUTTER / REPURPOSING QUILT
This is a heavily used antique textile with significant wear and repairs.
Condition issues include:
Numerous worn, thinning, and deteriorated fabric patches.
Areas of fabric loss and holes exposing the inner textile layer.
Fraying, loose threads, and weakened seams.
Fading, staining, and discoloration.
Numerous older repairs and reinforcement patches.
Wear along edges, including areas of loose reinforcement stitching.
Visible repairs and patching on the reverse.
Despite these condition issues, the quilt feels structurally strong overall when handled.

Potential uses include quilted pillows, framed patchwork sections, textile art, sewing projects, and vintage fabric crafts.
Cleaning: The quilt has been washed using Clean People laundry detergent sheets.
Measurements: Approximately 83 inches long × 62 inches wide.
Please carefully examine all photographs. They are part of the condition description and show the extensive wear, repairs, and character of this old handmade textile.
Sold as pictured, with all age-related wear and imperfections.
