Found in France recently, a large scale leech jar, very obviously hand blown as it has air bubbles, striations in line with old glass making techniques & a lack of symmetry etc. These were apparently used in pharmacies to hold leeches, this example has signs of age inside the bowl from tongues scratching the glass when dispensing to clients. Also a chip under the rim of the glass, see photos. This is a substantial & weighty piece, it could well be c1800 or before when considering the amount of wear to the base & also that it has a broken pontil rather than polished.
