Authentic antique cast iron charcoal/coal box iron, likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. Before electric irons, hot charcoal or embers were placed inside the hollow body to heat the heavy iron soleplate for pressing clothing.
Features a hinged top with decorative scalloped edging, ventilation holes along the body, heavy cast-iron construction, and a turned wooden handle with attractive aged red/brown coloration.
A wonderful piece for an antique iron collection, primitive farmhouse décor, laundry-room display, country décor or early household-tool collection. The iron is 7.5\" tall, from top of handle to the bottom. It is 7\" long, from back to front and 3\" at the widest back
Condition: Age-related patina, surface rust, oxidation, discoloration and wear throughout, particularly on the interior and soleplate. Wooden handle retains an attractive aged finish with wear from use. Hinged lid is present. Sold as an antique collectible/display piece and has not been restored.
