A beautiful floral sterling silver match safe. This one is a more unique oval shape; with a rectangular shape being more common. It is marked with an S makers mark, Sterling, and 917. There is space on each side that a monogram could be put, but currently sits empty. While in great shape with fantastic luster for it's age, there are some signs of wear. The open field on each side shows small dents and scratches. There is a split on the solder line on the side opposite of the hinge. None of this detracts from how stunning and rare of a find this is. With the art nouveau style we can assume this was made either late 1800s or early 1900s.
This match safe comes from a large inherited collection that has been entrusted to us on consignment. I have done my best to insure accurate pictures for each match safe so please look at all pictures before purchasing. This estate collection includes 60 total match safes ranging across art nouveau, art deco, and pre-war. There are plenty of sterling, brass, German silver, and other metals available in this collection. Plenty of advertisements and old souvenirs as well.
