The Brockton Fair was a major Massachusetts event from 1874 until it closed after COVID, known for horse racing, midway rides, and big-name shows. It started as an agricultural fair, grew into the "World Famous Famous Brockton Fair," and the grandstand was demolished in July 2023.
The Brockton Fair traces back to 1874, when the Brockton Agricultural Society formed after the larger Plymouth County Agricultural Society held its 67th exhibition in Bridgewater in 1886. Early fairs featured horse racing, agricultural exhibits, and even a massive Agricultural Building moved from Egypt, Massachusetts in 1923 for $50,000. The fairgrounds were a hub for Brockton, then called "Shoe City," with crowds coming from everywhere for the races and exhibits.
