Wonderful original 1919 German-language Lutheran confirmation certificate / religious ephemera from the historic German community near Brenham, Texas.
The large illustrated certificate reads “Zur Erinnerung an den Tag der Konfirmation” (In Remembrance of the Day of Confirmation) and features a colorful image of Jesus Christ surrounded by German religious text and floral/Gothic-style decoration.
Handwritten information records the confirmation of Alfred Wilhelm Christian Bruno [surname difficult to decipher], born May 17, 1904 and confirmed December 14, 1919.
The location appears to read:
Ev. Luth. Ebenezer Kirche
Berlin bei Brenham, Texas
Signed by the pastor and retaining an embossed/seal element at the bottom referencing Berlin, Texas.
Measures approximately 16" x 12".
CONDITION: This is a well-loved 100+ year old paper document and is being sold as found. Significant condition issues include numerous folds/creases, tears and splits along fold lines, edge tears and losses, staining/toning, surface wear and other age-related deterioration. Please examine all photos carefully. Despite the condition, the printed imagery, handwritten historical information and seal remain quite striking.
