Description
AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE PATHFINDER OF THE AMERICAN WEST DECOR
Up for sale is a completely original, untouched piece of early 20th-century Western Americana. This item features a classic, documented circa 1910 studio portrait of a theatrical Wild West cowgirl posing playfully with a prop pistol, holster, and lasso.
During the height of the touring Wild West show craze (popularized by Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill), photography studios kept these rustic costumes and props on hand for dramatic souvenirs and promotional real-photo postcards.
FRAME & BACKING DETAILS:
What makes this piece exceptionally desirable to collectors is that it remains housed in its original Arts & Crafts / Mission-style quarter-sawn oak frame. The back is completely undisturbed, featuring the original period strawboard (pulp cardboard) backing, flat hand-driven framing brads (nails), and oxidized iron hanging wire. CONDITION REPORT:
• The Photograph: Shows expected, light uniform age-toning/yellowing near the margins consistent with a 115-year-old print. The center image remains sharp, clear, and rich in contrast. No severe tears or water damage visible under the glass.
• The Frame: The oak wood displays a gorgeous dark stain with prominent natural linear grain. It has minor scuffs, light finish wear, and corner separation appropriate for an estate item of this age.
• The Reverse: The backing board is dry and brittle along the perimeter edges due to age, with minor flaking (as shown in photos). The original wire is intact but weathered.
