Up for sale is a rare piece of Southern California transit and tourism history! This unique antique real photograph postcard (RPPC) captures a tourist standing on the famous wooden observation tower platform at the terminus of the \"Great Incline\" funicular railway, near the summit of Mount Lowe, near Pasadena / Echo Mountain in the San Gabriel Mountains. In the center of the frame, a visitor stands proudly next to the scenic overlook coin-operated telescope mounted high up on the timber structure. In the foreground, another tourist wearing a classic period fedora hat looks out across the vast mountain canyon.
The Mount Lowe Railway operated as an all-electric mountain trolley and cable incline system from 1893 until its catastrophic destruction in the 1938 floods. This image dates back to the railway\'s golden era when millions traveled to the \"White City in the Sky\" and Alpine Tavern. A truly remarkable image for collectors of California history, rail transit memorabilia, or vintage photography.
