Offered is a wonderful pair of antique river steamer freight/shipping documents, each framed and featuring period handwritten entries and blue revenue-style stamps.
The pair includes:
- Steamer Argand freight receipt/document
- Steamer H. K. Bedford freight receipt/document, dated 1900
Both documents reference the Wheeling, Sistersville, Marietta and Parkersburg Tri-Weekly Packet route, connecting these historic Ohio River communities. They contain handwritten shipping information, cargo notations, signatures/marks, and original affixed blue stamps.
These are attractive pieces of Ohio River transportation and steamboat history and would display especially well in a collection of riverboat memorabilia, transportation ephemera, West Virginia/Ohio history, or turn-of-the-century commercial documents.
Antique documents show expected age-related wear including toning/yellowing, creasing, wrinkles, handwriting, and other signs of use and storage. The documents have not been removed from the frames for inspection, so the condition of areas concealed by the matting/frame is unknown. Frames show normal light cosmetic wear from age and display. Please review all photos closely as they are an important part of the condition description.
