For sale is a really nice square bowl dish made in Japan in the late 17th century or early 18th century - I would narrow it down to 1700-1720. Likely from the Arita area so they are today known as Arita ware or Hizen ware though this is used more for blue and white pieces. The wares with added color are known as Imari ware with Kakiemon as a sub group. Kutani wares also come from this area but are different yet again. This little dish of an unusual shape that is hand painted with the Kakiemon colors with an early phoenix bird / ho-o flying in the center in red and gold and two different alternating designs along the rim. Typical light yellow, blue, green and gold colors. Nice relief design to the edge. The glaze is darker along the grove of the edge where it pooled. The underside has a simple green and red design to all sides. It is a really nice quality dish that is in perfect condition. It does have a minor manufacturing flaw on one corner where something stuck to it in the kiln as shown. Small and it does not take away from the piece. The dish is just over 1.25 inch tall and just under 5.75 inches on the sides. It is unmarked which is normal. A really nice looking quality example! Porzellan Schale
