During the Vietnam War, the U.S. Army experimented with a heavily armed and armored version of the CH-47 Chinook, officially designated as the ACH-47A "Guns-A-Go-Go" (or colloquially, the "Go-Go Birds"). Only four of these massive gunships were ever built, each customized with menacing nose art and distinct nicknames that reflected the dark humor of the era. The most famous of these was "Easy Money," alongside her sister ships "Birth Control," "Stump Jumper," and "The Co-Pilot's Nightmare." These flying fortresses were terrifyingly formidable, bristling with an arsenal that included a nose-mounted 40mm automatic grenade launcher, two forward-facing 20mm cannons, five .50-caliber machine guns, and two 19-round 2.75-inch rocket pods. While they provided devastatingly effective close air support, the program was ultimately short-lived; three of the four aircraft were lost to combat accidents or enemy fire, leaving "Easy Money" as the sole surviving variant, which was eventually retired to a museum as a testament to one of the most aggressive experimentations in rotary-wing firepower.
