Maker and marks: On the base of this interesting little spouted bowl are the red handwritten mark of Edmé Samson et Cie and the phrase "France Hand Painted".
Edmé Samson produced reproductions of famous earlier designs across a broad range of ceramic styles from 1864 until the firm was closed in 1969. Each piece was designated with a special mark to distinguish it from the originals.
On the basis of other very similar Samson armorial pieces, this bowl is believed to date to the late 1800s, but that is not confirmed.
Design: The bowl is decorated with raised white scrollwork, red berries and green leaves and is trimmed in gold. A royal crest - with a lion to the left and a white dog to the right - appears at the center of the interior.
Size: The bowl is 4 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches tall. It weighs just under 1 pound.
Condition: It's in excellent condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, crazing, repairs or significant wear. There is light wear to the crest; it's visible in the photos.
