2 Vintage 48-Star American Flag Hat Pins, the Whitehead & Hoag Co., Newark, NJ. This is a lot of two (2) 48-Star American Flag hat pins manufactured by the Whitehead & Hoag Co., out of Newark, NJ. The 48-star American flag was the official flag of the United States between 1912-1959.
Whitehead & Hoag were known for the manufacture of political- and business-related buttons, which at the time was a very efficient and effective advertising strategy. However, in 1953 the company suffered the loss of one of its last founding family members who was actively engaged in the company and its dominance in the field began to decline. In 1959, a competitor bought the business.
Pins are approximately 2 7/16\" long.
Items are in overall good condition considering their age. Patina, wear and tear are normal for these vintage and used items. Please see photos for details.
