2 P.HARVEY 1853 ANTIQUE NY JACQUARD COVERLETS~EAGLES ~ BINGHAMTON CARPET FACTORYOutstanding find of 2 matching coverlets, signed by P. Harvey in 1853 and woven in Binghamton, Broome County, New York at the Binghamton Carpet and Coverlet Factory. I have had no luck in finding documention of P. Harvey or the Binghamton Factory except for a similar coverlet in the collection of the Broome County Historical Society.
At about the same time there was an establishment called the Ithaca Carpet and Coverlet Factory in neighboring Cayuga County. Research shows the existence of a coverlet woven there by Archibald Davidson.Coincidently, the pattern is nearly identical.
Border with running deer, eagles with “E Pluribus Unum”banner, capital building. Floral center field.
These two coverlets are in remarkable condition of their age. Both have some spots/staining/small darning. Both have very little wear. They are large, measuring 84”x 85”
I am showing 3 photos of each coverlet —2 sides and the signature block.
