DESCRIPTION:
Original 1965 Greater Boston Collegiate Track and Field Championships PROGRAM for the Fourth Annual Meet, held May 4–5, 1965 at Harvard Stadium, Harvard University.
An excellent piece of Boston-area collegiate track and field history, representing six major schools:
- Boston College
- Boston University
- Harvard University
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.)
- Northeastern University
- Tufts University
The program includes extensive meet information, including varsity and freshman team rosters, coaches and captains, roster of officials, complete event schedules, stadium and meet records, previous winners, athletes listed as “Performers to Watch,” scorecards, spaces for recording meet results, and a Roll of Previous Champions covering the earlier 1962–1964 meets.
The varsity roster alone lists nearly 200 entrants, making this a particularly useful reference for researchers of individual collegiate athletes and Boston-area track programs of the 1960s.
Several scorecard and results areas have period handwritten pencil notations, apparently recording portions of the competition. Much of the printed results section remains unused.
The attractive red-and-white illustrated cover depicts a runner wearing a GBC singlet and prominently advertises the Greater Boston Collegiate Track and Field Championships. Cover artwork is credited inside to Vic Johnson.
Also includes period advertising/support material for Crimson Printing Company of Cambridge and H. P. Hood & Sons Physical Fitness Program, with Hood logos on the rear cover.
Condition shows expected age and use, including toning, scattered spotting/soiling, handling wear, edge and corner wear, creasing, and the aforementioned handwritten scoring. Please examine photographs closely for condition and contents.
