Original Vintage 1960s Bianchi & Margherita Restaurant Menu Opera A La Carte 186 West 4th Fourth Street Greenwich Village New York City Manhattan NYC
Bianchi & Margherita, a Greenwich Village 'opera a la carte' restaurant at 186 West 4th Street, was operating by 1959 under Ercole Bianchi and Margherita Inzerillo — a former prima donna of the San Carlo Opera Company who had earlier spent 14 years leading the singing group at Asti, the restaurant that pioneered the singing-waiters format. One of the Village's celebrated 'opera bars,' it served Italian pasta alongside near-continuous operatic performance from the waiters, bartender, hatcheck girl, and even the chef, who finished by leading the ensemble in the Anvil Chorus from Verdi's 'Il Trovatore.' A scene was filmed there for the TV series 'Naked City' in 1962. Still operating as of 1991, it has since closed, and its space at 186 West 4th Street is now counted among the Village's vanished opera restaurants.
It measures 7" x 5.5" closed and 11" x 7" open
