Archival 1933 Prohibition Medicinal Bourbon Set
Matching Amber Glass Flask & Rare Original Carton
Secure an investment-grade piece of American spirits history with this museum-quality, matching 1916-1933 Prohibition-era medicinal whiskey set. Procured directly from a historic estate sale, this artifact combo includes the iconic diagonally ribbed amber glass pint flask and its incredibly scarce, matching green cardboard retail carton distributed by the legendary American Medicinal Spirits Company (AMS Co.).
Historical Lineage & Chronology
- The Distillation (Fall 1916): Distilled by master distiller Harry E. Wilken at the historic R.P. Pepper Distillery (Distillery No. 368, 5th District of Kentucky) right before the United States entered WWI.
- The Glass Manufacture (1932): The base of the flask features the embossed Owens-Illinois Glass Company diamond-oval trademark, paired with plant code 7 (Alton, Illinois) and single-digit date code 2, confirming the glass was blown in 1932 specifically for this release.
- The Bottling (1933): Government-supervised and bottled-in-bond at 100 Proof at the absolute twilight of Prohibition, just as AMS Co. was transitioning into the National Distillers Products Corporation.
Condition & Preservation Assessment
Unlike most century-old surviving flasks that suffered from fluid leaks, this empty specimen features 100% intact, pristine front and back paper labels. Every legal warning, federal permit number (Permit No. Ky. P-18), and text block remains sharp and fully legible. The original green U.S. Internal Revenue Bottled-in-Bond tax strip remains securely fixed over the top cap and intact lead foil capsule neck ring.
The original green outer carton maintains excellent structural rigidity and deep color. The primary label on the front is bold and complete. In alignment with its vintage age, the top closure flaps of the cardboard box are missing, and minor shelf wear/creasing is present at the base corners as shown in the high-resolution imagery.
