Thank you for viewing this item.A complete set of 16 vintage Japanese picture postcards featuring famous sights of Nara, Japan.The set includes views of Todaiji Temple and the Great Buddha, Kasuga Shrine, Kofukuji Temple, Sarusawa Pond, Mikasayama (present-day Wakakusayama), Nara deer, and other historic sights.The original illustrated folder is marked “Nara Shin Meisho” (New Famous Places of Nara), “Right-style,” and “16-card set.”The postcards are believed to date from the 1930s, pre-war Japan. One of the photographs includes a period sign advertising Nara’s traditional deer antler-cutting event (“Tsunokiri”). Another card uses the historical name “Mikasayama,” adding interesting period context to the set.
Condition
Vintage pre-war paper items with age-related wear. The postcards show varying degrees of discoloration, staining, surface marks, scratches, and edge/corner wear. Some cards have noticeable yellow-brown staining and marks, particularly along the lower edges and backs. The original paper folder has significant wear, tears, splitting, creasing and staining. Please carefully examine all photos, as they form an important part of the condition description.
