Occupational
A pair of original early-20th-century construction photographs documenting municipal sewer construction work in Norwalk, Connecticut.
Each mounted photograph measures approximately 8 × 10 inches overall and carries the reverse stamp:
THE WALKER STUDIOS
59 to 65 Wall St.
Norwalk, Conn.
One image shows a large excavation machine with clearly painted lettering identifying the equipment as:
“MODEL 16-B
BAY CITY EXCAVATOR
OWNED BY
FISCHER & CROWLEY
BRISTOL – CONN.”
The photographs show workers installing large pipe sections and operating early excavation machinery in a wooded trench area, consistent with municipal sewer or drainage construction projects of the early 1900s (circa 1905–1920).
The contractor identified on the machine, Fischer & Crowley of Bristol, Connecticut, was likely responsible for the excavation work on the Norwalk sewer project.
Mounted photographs measure 8 × 10 inches, with age toning and some scuffing and wear along the mount edges, along with typical handling marks from age. Please review photos carefully for condition.
