Offered here is an original antique photograph of volunteer firemen pulling a hand-drawn fire apparatus down a cobblestone street. It is inscribed in period ink on the back: \"Hand Engine, Oct. 2nd 1906, Burnet St.\" It is mounted on its original black card mount, which measures about 6 by 5 inches.
The photograph captures an early fire company, most likely in a parade or muster. Firemen in uniform caps and dark suits, several wearing ribbons or badges, haul the wooden-wheeled hand engine by its drag rope. The rig is loaded with coiled leather hose and long pipes and decorated with a small American flag. A group of boys in caps and knickers walks alongside, and more onlookers line the sidewalk. The setting has cobblestones and trolley tracks, board-and-batten buildings with sawtooth trim, and a \"Ruberoid Roofing\" sign on the wall. Hand-pulled apparatus like this was already being retired in favor of horse-drawn steamers by 1906. Old engines of this kind were proudly brought out by veteran fire companies for parades and firemen\'s celebrations. This is a lively street scene and an excellent piece of American firefighting history.
The location is identified only as \"Burnet St.\" Several towns had a Burnet Street, including New Brunswick and Newark, New Jersey, and Syracuse, New York, so the exact city is not known.
The photograph is in good condition, with warm sepia tone and good detail. The motion blur on the marching firemen in the foreground is typical of cameras of the period. The mount shows significant wear. It has a large crack and tear running from the top edge down through the upper right corner of the photo, where the print is lifting slightly from the mount. The corners are chipped and trimmed, and there is soiling and edge wear. Please see all photos, which are part of the description.

Lost &Damaged Claims
For lost parcels, you must wait for 21 days domestic (US) and 45 days for International shipments. For shipments to Italy, you must wait 60 days before filing. Damage claims can be filed immediately. All claims should be submitted within 90 days from the date of shipment. All International parcels will be insured with U-PIC, please do not file a \"not received \"claim with PayPal, just contact us to resolve your problem.
