1843 New York Letter to Capron Water Wheel Co., Hudson – Early Industrial Engineering Performance Report
Approximately 8\" by 5.5\" Tear at bottom of middle seam
Original handwritten 1843 technical correspondence from 86 Warren Street, New York, addressed to the Capron Water Wheel Company of Hudson. This early industrial-era letter discusses the performance of a water-powered wheel, evaluating its RPMs, weight load, water pressure, and operational efficiency.
The writer explains difficulties achieving the expected 10 revolutions per minute, noting that when the wheel had minimal weight it operated tolerably, but heavier loads significantly reduced performance. He also expresses concern that the machine may not deliver the full power previously supposed, even under the most favorable conditions.
Signed E. A. Rowe, the document offers a fascinating glimpse into mid-19th century American engineering, water-power technology, and early mechanical troubleshooting. Includes the original folded address panel on the reverse.
