🇺🇸 WWII U.S. Legion of Merit Medal Named WILLIAM R. – Original Wartime Issue
This is an authentic World War II U.S. Legion of Merit medal, awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services. The Legion of Merit was one of the highest U.S. decorations presented during WWII, frequently awarded to senior officers and distinguished Allied personnel.
The reverse of the medal is officially engraved with the name “WILLIAM R.” The first name is clearly legible; however, the surname is indistinct and cannot be stated with certainty due to wear and engraving style. For accuracy and integrity, the medal is described exactly as observed, without speculation.
The medal displays correct WWII-era construction, original ribbon, and proper suspension hardware. This is a genuine named wartime decoration, not a postwar replacement or reproduction.
Named Legion of Merit medals are increasingly difficult to find, particularly those retaining their original ribbon and showing period-correct wear. Even without a fully legible surname, this remains a desirable collector piece and a strong research candidate for historians and advanced militaria collectors.
Features:
Original WWII U.S. Legion of Merit medal
Reverse engraved “WILLIAM R.” (surname indistinct)
Correct wartime construction and ribbon
No reproduction or restrike issues
Highly collectible named U.S. decoration
