This is an authentic, vintage 5-piece set of Russian Nesting Dolls (Matryoshka) handcrafted in Sergiyev Posad, the historic and world-renowned center of Russian doll artistry. Dated 1994, this set is a beautiful example of post-Soviet era craftsmanship, featuring a striking color palette and intricate floral details.
Artistry & Design
Traditional Motif: The dolls are adorned with vibrant pink roses and lush greenery, set against a sophisticated deep purple and black background.
Gold Leaf Detail: The headscarves (shawls) feature shimmering gold accents and delicate "lace" stenciling, adding a premium feel to the set.
Authentic Provenance: The base of the largest doll is hand-inscribed in Cyrillic with the city of origin (г. Посад) and the year of production (1994).

Height: The largest "mother" doll stands at approximately 7 inches (180mm), offering a substantial shelf presence.
This set is in excellent vintage condition. The lacquer finish remains glossy, and the colors are exceptionally vibrant with no significant fading. The dolls open and close smoothly.
Note: As shown in the photos, there is a small, uniform hole on the bottom of the largest doll, which is a characteristic of the traditional wood-turning process used during this period.
Sergiyev Posad is considered the "birthplace" of the Matryoshka. Pieces from this region, especially signed and dated examples from the 1990s, are highly sought after for their historical value and adherence to traditional wood-turning and painting techniques.
