This pair of antique Spurs are made in the style of French Naval officer dress spurs that were made for a small man , woman or kid. They appear to be made of nickel - silver made by the French spur maker "Claquin" as seen in the photos of the makers mark.
Prior to the 1850s all military officers wore the traditional strap on spurs. The four hole box ( for screws into the boot heels ) configuration, which required boots specifically manufactured with an internal wooden heel block receptacle, became standardized and widely fashionable among the elite French staff officers during the 1860's.
