Bronze Age Marvel at Its Weirdest
By 1974, Steve Gerber had transformed Man-Thing from a swamp-monster concept into one of Marvel's strangest and most distinctive Bronze Age titles — part horror comic, part fantasy, part social satire, and increasingly unlike anything else the company was publishing.
Man-Thing #7 lands squarely in that celebrated period. Gerber supplies the eccentric storytelling, Mike Ploog brings his unmistakably macabre style to the interiors, and Ron Wilson delivers a wonderfully ominous cover that looks exactly like a great 1970s Marvel horror book should.
Against the superhero-dominated landscape of the era, Man-Thing helped define Marvel's darker, stranger Bronze Age fringe alongside titles like Tomb of Dracula and Werewolf by Night.
In CGC 9.8, this is an unusually sharp example of that era — and a terrific representation of Gerber's landmark run.
