Used Porsche Sports Cars
Although new Porsche sports cars are very expensive, they depreciate quite rapidly over the first few years of ownership with the huge advantage that used models are only a fraction of the price of new ones. If you shop around you can find examples that have covered very low mileages and are in almost perfect condition.
The entry model Porsche is the Boxster, though depending on which model you go for you can pay anything from around £36,000 for a basic model up to £47,800 for the Spyder. If you decide to add some optional extras you could be looking at well over £52,000.
If you shop around you should be able to find a used Porsche Boxster that has covered as little as 30,000 miles with an 07 plate for around £14,000 to £15,000: a tiny fraction of the car’s price when new.
As used cars lose most of their value in the first few years, this means that from then they will depreciate at a much slower rate subsequently. If you buy one this year you should be able to sell it in two years time and have lost very little money.
Let’s look at another used Porsche; this time we will take the amazing Porsche 911. You can spend a very large amount of money on a 911 (the GT RS retails for around £130,000) so we will look at an entry level 911 Carrera which sells for the relatively modest sum of around £71,500 in basic trim.
And as a used sports car? It is quite possible to find an immaculate example of a four year old 57 plate used 911 Carrera for just a pinch more than £30,000, and with plenty of optional extras too.
This is another benefit of buying a used sports car. When you buy a brand new car you have to pay a lot of money for optional extras; they can really inflate the price but they have very little impact on the price of used cars. Thus it is possible to find highly specified cars for prices not too far away from basic ones.
