This is a factory Ford toploader transmission originally out of a late 70\'s Ford Van with a 351W engine. The code on the transmission is RUG-CD(could also be RUG-OD but I don\'t see a listing for that code). This transmission was originally referred to as a 4 speed overdrive or a 3 speed plus overdrive. I\'m not sure what the correct terminology is but it has 4 forward gears and the 4 gear is an overdrive. This transmission is dimensionally very similar as many earlier 4 speed non-overdrive toploaders which should make for a fairly easy swap from what I have read. I imagine this will fit many years, makes, and models. Please confirm your specific application.
This transmission looks to be in very good original condition as shown. I recently purchased this from a long time hot rodder. He removed this transmission from a late 70\'s Ford van in good working condition in hopes of using it in a hot rod project. He has gotten older and decided to focus on other things in life and sold me his hot rod parts. This transmission looks great. The externals are very nice with light surface corrosion since these transmissions were not painted from the factory. Even the factory inspection markings can still be seen. The transmission is very clean inside with no chipped or broken teeth, corrosion, or other damage. The transmission spins through all 4 forward gears and reverse smoothly with no binding or sloppiness. This transmission has been in storage for decades and it would be a good idea to rebuild it before installing for piece of mind. At a minimum, this transmission should be cleaned, have the oil changed and seals/gaskets replaced. This is an awesome factory manual overdrive transmission.
