We Can Ship if you Need to. This is a Really NICE Clean Block, NO Sleeves/NO Cracks/MAG OK. It is a Chevrolet 3855961 casting 396 Block with 4 Bolt Mains and is a Standard Bore (4.094) Bare Block, rare. It is Dated E-19-6 as this 4-bolt version was introduced in April of 1966 because the 3855962 block was being Phased Out. It would have been however probably for a Square Port motor to need the 4 bolt main configuration I would guess. The #961 4 bolt block is known to have been installed in L78 applications, ALL others unknown and takes the early grooved rear Cam Bearing/Cam like the Feb. 65 962 castings. GM changed that later on the Second design 406 casting for the 396 block used in very late 1966 and 1967 models only. Primary difference between this and the #3855961/962 block is the casting of the oil galleys. First design #962 built in both 4-bolt and 2-bolt configurations although the April/May #961\'s were 4 bolt\'s. It is one of the Very Early mid May 396 meant to be used as a high HP L78 in a 65-66 and probably 67 Chevelle\'s and Camaro\'s or maybe Corvette\'s. Solid and Ready to use for rebuild and is in Good condition for a restoration of a Rare Hi-Perf High Horse Chevrolet. I was told GM only made this particular numbered 4 Bolt Block in April/May 1966 for 66-67 Model Year High Performance Chevrolet\'s but you will have to check that for your self. This 396 block would be an advantage because it will be of lighter weight than the thicker cast blocks of 65. Make sure this is the block you need for your restoration as their are many different blocks numbered differently that only go to certain years/models. No numbers on the pad, but is a virgin standard bore block and NO sleeves and hard to find them like this.
