1958 Ford Thunderbird: 2 dr hard top, odometer 18485 (total since new unknown), turquoise and white exterior, turquoise and white vinyl interior, rebuilt 352 cu. in. 300 hp engine, freshly rebuilt cruise-o-matic auto trans, brand new suspension just installed, new ignition circuitry, power steering, power windows, am radio (working), front seat belts, wide white wall tires, fresh tune up, trim plate reads as follows; body 63a, color MB, trim XM, date 150, trans. 4, axle 1.
In 1958, Ford began production of the second generation T-Bird which included a 4 passenger design and was nicknamed "Square Birds". There were only 35,758 two-door hardtops produced in 1958, which is about 40% fewer than those produced in 1959, and 64% fewer than those produced in 1960. The bucket seats and console design of this bird was a pioneering effort by Ford. It successfully established the personal luxury concept of today's automobiles. This was Ford's first model with a Uni-body frame, a feature that is now standard on most vehicles. 1958 was the only year that Ford designed in coil springs for both the front and rear suspension.
This car is my father-in-law's baby. Sadly, cancer is forcing the sale of this great vehicle. It is close to show condition and only requires some minor TLC to get it the rest of the way. It is mechanically sound, the 352 V8 engine runs great and offers smooth power, the new transmission shifts smoothly without jumping or clunking and the new suspension makes the ride enjoyable. The exterior repaint is fresh and good quality. The interior and exterior chrome has some minor pitting but is great considering it is 51 years old. Most of the weather stripping has been replaced. The wide white wall tires are in good shape. Comes with an Official OEM Ford shop manual on CD.
