Ferrari 250 TR   This LHD recreation of the famous late 1950,s Ferrari 250 TR, being one of only five examples commissioned by Alistair Walker and built by Jim Rose specifically for the famous FERRARI Works Racing driver INNES IRELAND. Its body was fabricated by Les Monk and his son. Jim Rose and Les Monk had rebodied 3 of the 330 coupes before this Ferrari was commissioned. The original steelwork was removed and replaced with steel tubing to support the new English bodywork. The brakes, suspension and chassis were restored as new. The idea was to make attractive driveable Ferrari roadsters that looked correct and yet are not fakes or clones of an original Ferrari.   Superb in its detail with the seats trimmed with Kings Own Scottish Borders tartan it appears in Innes Irelands book ?All Arms and Elbows? (2nd edition) with pictures of him at his wedding to Jean Howarth.   Based on Ferrari 330GT #GT5333 3967cc V12 two cam, six carb, Four speed transmission with overdrive. It is sat breathing through a sextet of Weber carburettors, mated to a four speed gearbox with electrically operated overdrive.   Built in 1992. The car we offer has had a full inspection, road test and report, with the relevant rectification and some safety work carried out in 2005 at a cost of some £15,500. This purchase represents an opportunity to acquire a sensational looking and performing car of significant former ownership. Innes Ireland was one of the great characters of motor racing in the 1950s and 1960s.   Supporting documents we have with the car include current and previous V5s, MOTs and tax discs. Other documentation includes studio photos, letters of correspondence and numerous invoices and bills relating to the car.   Innes Ireland the well known BRM,Lotus,Ferrari GP Work,s Driver...Robert McGregor Innes Ireland (12 June 1930 ? 22 October 1993), was a British military officer, engineer, and motor racing driver. He was a larger-than-life character who, according to a rival team boss, 'lived without sense, without an analyst and provoked astonishment and affection from everyone.'[citation needed]   Ireland was born on 12 June 1930 in Mytholmroyd, Yorkshire, England, the son of a Scottish veterinary surgeon. His family returned to Kirkcudbright, Dumfries and Galloway, in Scotland during his youth, and he trained as an engineer with Rolls-Royce, first in Glasgow and later in London. Commissioned as a lieutenant in the King's Own Scottish Borderers, he served with the Parachute Regiment in the Suez Canal Zone during 1953 and 1954.   Ireland's first serious year of auto racing was 1957, by which time he was running a small engineering firm in Surrey. Success in sports car racing saw him make his Formula One debut for Team Lotus in 1959. In 1960 he won three non-championship Formula One races and finished fourth in the World Drivers Championship. Badly injured in the 1961 Monaco Grand Prix, Ireland recovered to win the Solitude and Austrian Grand Prix races, then finished the season with a victory in the United States Grand Prix at Watkins Glen.   Ireland upset Lotus Cars boss Colin Chapman and the team sponsors by giving up his car to Stirling Moss of the rival Rob Walker team at the 1961 Italian Grand Prix. This led to him being arbitrarily sacked at the end of the '61 season. Despite occasional successes, Ireland never again had a car to match his talent, and his last serious race was the Daytona 500 in 1967.   A talented writer, Ireland produced a classic autobiography, All Arms and Elbows (ISBN 0-85184-050-7), and worked as a journalist for the American Road & Track magazine, as well as skippering fishing trawlers in the North Atlantic. Towards the end of his life, he was elected president of the prestigious British Racing Drivers' Club, which post he still held at the time of his death from cancer on 22 October 1993, at Reading, Berkshire, England.   For more photos please contact Oakfields.   To arrange a viewing please call Andew at Oakfields in the UK on +44 1256 760256 or +44 7775 900 007   We can arrange shipping door to door worldwide and have been importing and exporting cars for over 30 years.
