Awesome 1962 Impala SS Convertible CustomI purchased this car from the family of the original owner in 1997. It was built at the Los Angeles plant in July of 1961. This Super Sport was originally black, but was later painted white. When I purchased this car is was totally rust free having spent most of it's life in the southern California area. It was indeed a super rare find. It sat in my garage for two years before I started the disassembly down to the bare frame. Seven years later, after hundreds of hours and thousands of very confidential dollars she appears as you see here today. The frame and suspension pieces were powder coated and reassembled. The body was put on a rotisserie, stripped to bare metal and massaged by Mike Darling. Mike also added a metal cowl induction hood and additional tail lights for that "Bad Attitude" look. After several sets of priming and sanding the body was deemed perfect and was sent to Kenni Whitlock of Palo Cedro Customs to have the body jams painted. The car was reassembled and sent back out to Kenni to have the final paint applied. The paint is PPG's Ruby's Slipper. The 327 was replaced with a 1969 Corvette 427/425HP engine. The intake was replaced with a Edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock carburetor and air cleaner. Has a Holley fuel pump and regulator. Spark comes from a Pertronix ignition and flame thrower coil. Sanderson headers were added with 3 inch custom exhaust through Borla cans. The powerglide transmission was replaced with a 700R for better highway cruising. The suspension was upgraded with front and rear air bags and power disc brakes up front. Power steering was connected to a 605 box and for cool driving pleasure, the factory air conditioning was replaced with a Vintage air unit. The engine compartment was  finished off with chrome and billet accessories. Custom upholstery was done by Jerry's Upholstery in Medford Oregon. Cadillac seats and door panels were done in grey leather. Custom carpets and console were installed and the trunk was done in materials that match the interior. . The custom top was done in Mercedes black with a tinted limo window. The interior has a custom dash with Classic Instrument gauges and an Ididit column with a Billet Specialties steering wheel. The console holds the AC controls, air bag control panel, cup holder, CD/Radio and a DVD player for the back seat passengers, complete with wireless headsets. Wiring was installed by Jason Quinn and wrapped in custom sleeving for that final touch of class. All trim pieces were straightened and polished and the bumpers were re-chromed. The car was finished off with American Racing Wheels and BF Goodrich G-Force tires. The test drive of this seven year project proved that this turned out to be the special car that I had always dreamed of building.Surely this one of a kind car is unlike any other that I've ever seen in person or in the many hot rod magazines that I have read. This is definitely the kind of car that looks great from a distance and blows you away when you get up close.I've told you of most of the features of the car and the pictures verify the story. Now if I could just describe the ride....
