This is my 1964 Mercury Comet Cyclone. It is a beautiful car, straight, solid, and originally from the LA area in California. In fact it was bought there back in 64 by an elderly lady who had it most of it's life, until she sold it. I am the 4th owner of the car, the original owner sold it to one person, and it was sold to the guy I bought it from. I have had the car about 10 years now, and put most of my money into rebuilding the entire drivetrain! Other than the work I did to it, this car is still mostly all original including the interior and vinyl top. It has been re-painted once, still original color of wimbeldon white. The bumpers have been re-chromed, and I replaced all the aluminum trim with newly bright dipped pieces, including the grill, headlight covers, and the rear tail trim. The gas door and trim is a NOS piece, and I put new NOS tailights on it. Not the re-manufactured stuff, old new stock! The engine is based around a 1968 302 block, I bought it as a crate motor with Edelbrock RPM aluminum heads, and cam. It has a windage tray, and deep sump 7qt. oil pan. I have an edelbrock vintage Torker intake, and quick fuel 650 cfm double pump carb that was special built to this car and drivetrain application. The Headers are Doug's Tri Y headers that are ceramic coated, and exhaust is 2 1/2 inch with H-pipe out to Flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers. Sounds awesome! The motor is rated at 375 hp, but with the extras it is anywhere from 375-400hp. The trans was the original C-4 that I had re-built with a shift kit, and changed the bell housing to a 6 bolt to match to this motor. Converter is 2500 stall. The rear end is the original 8 inch that I had re-built and changed the gear ratio to a 3:80, and posi unit. Originally it was a 3:00 ratio, non posi. These 8 inch rear ends are much stronger than most would think, and lighter weight than a 9 inch. With the auto trans it is more than adequate! If I was to convert to a 4-speed, then I would think about changing to a 9 inch rear end? I thought about changing it over to a 4-speed, but this car is so nice and original that I couldn't justify doing it? This car also has rare power brakes, and power steering which I had re-built. Originally this car had AC, and a heater that I removed. I have all the parts for the AC, and I have all the heater parts that I was going to re-build, but just decided to leave it out. I bought a heater re-build kit, and new heater core that will also go with the car. I also have the original 289, and the 5 bolt bell housing that goes with the car, but the engine is stored at my parents house in Dewey, AZ. So if you want that, you will have to travel to meet me up north to get it. It's about a 2 hour drive north of where I live. I have kept most all of the original parts that came off the car, so if one wanted to put back completely original, they could! I even still have the original 14" steel wheels, and polished stainless steel hub caps that go with the car. It currently has 15 x 6 aluminum torq thrust II's and Michelin rubber. I also completely re-built the front end with all new tie rod ends, lower control arms, sway bar and bushings. One mistake I made was not repacing the steering gear box when I had the motor out of the car. I did buy a used, but tight gear box to replace it with that will also go with the car. The engine and transmissin have less than 5000 miles since I installed! There are no issues with this car other than one tiny rip in the passenger seat back at top, and 4 or 5 small paint chips. Also the vinyl top should be replaced eventually as it is original, and showing some wear, not too bad though. There is a slight trans leak, but I think this could just be from sitting. I only have driven this car to shows, cruises, and occational weekend drives since I have owned it. From what I know, it has been garage kept it's whole life, and it's always been kept in a garage since I have owned it! It's no trailer queen, but a super clean and nice car, and I prefer to drive them rather than let them sit anyhow! This is a real beauty, and I really hate to sell her as it is a very rare car, and will be extremely hard to replace, but my loss is your gain! I just want it to go to a good owner, that will care for the car as it has been for so long! It is an original california black plate car, and I do have the original plates somewhere which I will give to the new buyer once I locate them! There is probably more I am forgeting, but I would like to keep in touch with whoever ends up with this car, so I can provide them with parts, etc. as they come up! I have most of it all readily available, but I have a large storage room, and I know there is some more in the back, just need to dig it up! Please, only serious inquiries! I am not negotiable on the starting price, and anyone that knows these cars, and how difficult they are to find, especially this nice knows exactly what I am talking about! Someone will be very happy with this car!!! You can also reach me at my phone # with any questions, (602)688-3142. If I don't answer, just leave a message and I will get back to you asap. I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car sells locally. Thanks!
